Do I have to live in the City of Salem to adopt from your facility?: No, however if the animal is intact you must live in the City of Salem, Craig County (we are their contract pound) or in a jurisdiction that borders one of these jurisdictions. This is to ensure our abilities to follow up on our adoption contract ensuring the animal was fixed within the state mandated time.

1. How much is your adoption fee?: $30 - We accept cash, checks, credit cards, and debit cards.

2. Is there an application process?: No, you take home the animal you decide to adopt as soon as you finish your paperwork, which only takes about 15 minutes.

3. What is your adoption procedure?: Once you visit the animals and make your decision, you must sign our adoption contract, pay the adoption fee, and then take home your newest family member!

4. How many animals can I adopt?: The Commonwealth of Virginia regulates that there can only be 2 adoptions per household every 30 days.

5. Do I have to have the animal I adopt spayed or neutered?: Yes, state and local laws mandate that any animal adopted from a local pound, must be spayed or neutered within 30 days or by the time the animal is 7 months old. One of our main goals is to reduce pet overpopulation and lower the number of animals euthanized. Responsible pet ownership, including spaying and neutering is the only way to stop the cycle.
